Diane von Furstenberg

So I did not love every piece of the DVF show, but I did love most of it! She had lots of variety and the surprise showstopper, the iconic Naomi Campbell was the perfect icing on the cake.  It was also super cool that she wore one of the pieces when she came out to take her bow.
This is probably done all the time (Anna Sui did this at her show, too) but this is the first time I actually noticed it!

I love that Liu Wen always has a lovely smile on the runway!

The showstopper! Naomi should have been in this!

NAOMI!  I don't really like the dress, but it's NAOMI!!!

The one and only...DIANE VON FURSTENBERG!

As always, many thanks to style.com for their amazing coverage!

Carolina Herrera

I can't do a "Music Monday" today!

Alas, life goes on and there are still beautiful RTW pieces strutting down the fabulous runways in New York and I have some catching up to do!  Carolina Herrera's show was absolutely stunning.  I love going into her store here and trying on the garments in there, so I always like to see footage of her fashion shows.

The first thing I noticed was the models' big hair. I usually don't like big, bouffant hair (I know I'm from Texas and that's supposed to be "our thing" down here!), but I like how she did it just at the top and then straightened out in the back - just big enough.  I also liked the pieces where she combined blue and black - two neutrals that you rarely put together.  Then she did a cute take on her signature black and white.  Some of the whites were even ecru or eggshell instead of  stark white and there was lots of blending.  The show ended with pretty colorful  pieces.  My personal favorites are below - there are lots!

Peter Som

Peter  Som was full of cool surprises!  As I'm going through the slideshow, my eyes get used to the white hot theme, then - BAM!  My favorite neutral - brown!  I'm reveling in the beautiful brown (because I'm a brown girl!) - here comes the black!

So, I'm thinking at this point, "Peter Som is doing some great things with the neutrals". Then - POW! Cute, bright prints!  Then he mixed in some cute solid dark green pieces and some deep bordeaux pieces with nice cuts and lines.  There was also some diversity in the textures that he chose for the collection.  I'm not really a big fan of fur unless it's faux fur- mostly just because my nerd girl allergies won't allow it - but there were even some fur pieces that I really liked.

My art eye never got bored.  I would imagine you couldn't have blinked at this show or you would have missed something fantastic.  Several faves below to give you an idea of the versatility.

I would wear the heck out of this last piece and just have to be "sneezey" all day! Who would notice?

Jason Wu

I am a really, really big fan of Jason Wu.  However, before I discuss his collection, I must speak up for all women everywhere...

WE ARE SO OVER PANTYHOSE!!!

Tights - hot!  Decorative hose - ok, maybe! Plain old granny pantyhose - NOT cute!

Whew! That felt good!  (I have occasionally have some slight feminist tendencies!)

Now that I have my little rant out of my system - I really liked the collection.  It was really edgy and kind of reminded me of The Matrix.  Jason clearly took the "red pill"!  I especially liked the dresses (big surprise right?).  They would have looked lots better without - well, you know! ;)

Tadashi Shoji

There isn't much for me to say about this collection.  It is pretty, frilly, and girly, but with a bit of an edge and a touch of Asian inspiration.  Me likey very much! See some of my favorite looks below!  :)

BCBG Max Azria

BCBG is one of my favorite brands that I seek out when shopping so I was excited to see their ready to wear collection for the fall.  That being said, I'm not loving the color blocking -with the fur -with the strange hemline thing they were doing this season.  I did manage to find a few faves - none involving fur, though! If you haven't noticed yet, I have quite the thing for a great maxi length skirt!

Wordless Wednesday...

Fashion Week Rewind:  I just adore DVF - this is from 2008 RTW...
style.com

Thursday thoughts!!!  I particularly love this dress because it is my sorority colors and it was shown in 2008-the year of Alpha Kappa Alpha's 100th birthday! I waited until Thursday to use words! Is that bending the rules? love&light...

FASHION WEEK

centrefashion.com
Fashion Week is in t-minus 2 more days!  I hope one day to be an influential enough figure in the fashion community to be able to go and take part in all of the shows (and parties of course)!

Nicolas K. kicks off the week on Thursday followed directly by one of my favorites - BCBGMAXAZRIA. The week will end with Calvin Klein and my all time favorite designer - Ralph Lauren.  I'm also excited to see the lines from Vera Wang, Monique Lhuillier, LAMB by Gwen Stefani, DKNY, and Diane von Furstenberg just to name a few.  I also intend to get familiar with at least 3 designers with whom I am not now familiar.  Lots of commentary to come!

The full schedule of shows can be found here...  Fashion Week!

Endnotes - Couture

There were not too many couture lines this year and I have not posted some of my usual favorite designers because their shows were so  - odd! (Yes that's the word!)  Gaultier had an Amy Winehouse theme going on.  I miss her and liked her music, but I wasn't loving her essence on runway. The models at Givenchy had on facial jewelry that looked sort of like mustaches. The clothes were nice - they had a dark edge.  However, whatever that was on the model's faces just was not working for me!

One designer that caught my eye was Alexis Mabille.  I have to admit that I had never heard of her until this season.  I really liked her collection and the way she presented it.  She actually made "florals" for spring something Miranda Priestly would give accolades!  A few of my favorite looks are below.  Fashion Week New York City is next week!  So exciting!!!

J'adore! Dior Couture!

The Dior Spring Couture line took us back in time with an edgy twist.  Think, Barbara Billingsly's "Leave it to Beaver" and the show "Pan Am" meets Sexy kitten/Vegas showgirl.

The silhouettes were very feminine and dressy with lots of sheer, transparent textiles - often with nothing underneath!  The Beave's mom would just die! (I just crack myself up sometimes!)
